Family-based immigration

These visas are based on a close family relationship with a U.S. citizen, such as a spouse, child, or parent.

Employment-based immigration

Employment-based immigrant visas are divided into five preference categories. Certain spouses and children may accompany or follow-to-join employment-based immigrants.

Refugee status or asylum may be granted to people who have been persecuted or fear they will be persecuted on account of race, religion, nationality, and/or membership in a particular social group or political opinion.

Investment-related immigration

Immigrant investor programs are programs that allow individuals to obtain residence or citizenship of a country in return for making qualifying investments.
