Non Immigrants Students in the USA
The United States of America is known for some of the best universities in the world with impeccable levels of education. In order to get admitted to some University in the USA one has to have an F-1 or M-1 Visa. These are the student visas which are allocated to foreign students once they complete the necessary requirements.
The F and M Visa
The student Visas are of two kinds F visa and M Visa, The F visa is issued for Academic courses and M Visa is issued for Non Vocational or Technical courses. The F and M visas are further classified into two categories that are F-1, F2 and M-1, M2 respectively.
F-1 and F-2 visa:
The F-1 visa is issued to those non-immigrants who are admitted by any academic institution of the USA. The institution must grant some diploma, degree or certificate and must be authorised by US laws to admit students internationally. The students with F-1 visa are not permitted to work outside the campus during their first year of course but they can do some work on campus. After the first year the F-1 visa holder can work off campus and that employment must be curricular practical training, optional practical training.
The F2 visas are granted to the dependents of F1 visa holders. The spouses and unmarried children of F-1 visa holders are eligible for F-2 visa if they fulfil the criteria and prove with evidence that during their stay in the USA they’ll be able to support themselves and will leave the USA as soon as the student's course gets over.
M-1 and M-2 visa:
M-1 visa is issued to those non immigrants who wish to do some vocational or non academic course. The M-1 Visa holders are not allowed to work outside the campus, they can only do some part time jobs inside the campus during their course of study. M-1 visa holders can work outside campus as a part of their practical training only if it is pre-approved by the USCIS. Individuals applying for an M-1 visa should prove that they have sufficient immediate funds with them to support their studies and their life. M-2 visa is granted to dependents of M-1 Visa holders that includes spouse and unmarried children below 21 years of age. M-1 Visa is valid for a year or till the completion of course.
